Firwin designs and manufactures removable
blankets taking into consideration the end use and operating conditions
under which they will be used. It is critical we understand the
heat and environmental situation you are faced with. We can then
design the best insulation solution for you.
Safety in the work environment is important to all of us, both from
a human and business perspective. This means personnel protection
from burns, reduction of ambient heat levels, fire hazard reduction
and protection of sensitive sensors /cabling and fire sprinklers.
Firwin's removable insulation products meet ULC, Lloyds, GNV, NFPA,
Coast Guard and MIL, Standards and Requirements.
Benefits
• All our removable blankets are designed to be retrofitted,
installed OEM and fasten for easy installation and removal.
• Various practical alternative methods of fastening are available
for different end uses including lacing, buckle fastening and Velcro.
• This means that they are maintenance and inspection friendly.
Firwin offers a range of different removable/reusable insulation
blankets tailored to your special needs and requirements.
Materials
Due to the wide range of heat and environmental situations, we design
our blankets taking into consideration the end use and operating
conditions under which they will be used.
Once we understand your specific needs, we will determine the best
materials to use. Our design process includes selecting the best
material for:
1. Outer Cover Material (“The Cold Face”)
We select the most suitable outer cover material, given the environmental,
wear, heat demands and economic considerations of the installation.
Usually materials selected are coated or impregnated fibreglass
fabrics with various finishes best suited for the particular high
temperature range, chemical exposure, and liquid/oil resistance
required.

2. Insulation Material
Different insulation blanket materials have specific temperature
limitations so we select the insulation material most suited to
the identified temperature conditions. We keep in mind bearing the
material's maximum temperature resistance, thermal conductivity
[“k”], it’s environmental acceptability, and vibration
resistance.
3. The Inner Liner Material (“The Hot Face”)
Knitted SS wire mesh, which contracts and expands with heat is used,
to hold the insulation material in place. Different qualities of
SS mesh are used for Diesel and Gas engines. Specially coated fabrics
are used for temperature ranges below 450°F (250°C).
Where oil build up is a concern, oil resistant inner liners can
be used. If dust is a concern, silica liners can be added to the
hot surface while being mindful of the limitations of high temperature
products.
4. Fastening Systems
Depending on end use and temperature ranges, a variety of fastening
systems are available, including capstan rivets with lacing wires,
buckles and straps and high temperature velcro and snaps.
